We Believe

We are a Bible-believing church of people who strive to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

We are concerned about helping each other at every opportunity, improving our community, and making the world a better place in which to live.

At Walnut Grove, we have fun and we have profound times of reflection and fellowship -- all gifts from God.

Constantly learning more and more about God's purpose for our lives, we work to find the best ways we can to serve Jesus Christ and claim the abundant life He has promised.

Walnut Grove Choir

We believe that Jesus Christ alone is Lord of all and the Way to salvation.

We believe that Holy Scripture is the triune God's revealed Word, the Church's only infallible rule of faith and life.

We believe that God's people are called to holiness in all aspects of life.

We are eternally grateful to God that the United States was established by Christians with Christian principles as the foundation for government.

History

As Bristol's oldest church, our congregation has responded to God's call since 1781 to worship together and to work together to fulfill God's purpose.

Our earliest church was a log building long used also as a school, built sometime in the 1780's.

The name "Walnut Grove" comes from the name of the estate of John Preston, Sr., on whose land the church and cemetery were located.  Veterans of the American Revolutionary War are buried in this historic cemetery.

The church was formally chartered 27 May 1866 at the time a white frame church building was constructed near to the current location of Lee Highway. That church burned in 1879, was rebuilt in 1880 and that structure stood until 1980. The current building was dedicated in 1961.
