PRESBYTERY KATRINA/NEW ORLEANS MISSION WORK TRIP

  ABINGDON PRESBYTERY

 KATRINA MISSION TRIP  -- OCTOBER 5 – 11, 2008

“God is our refuge and our strength….Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult” (Ps. 46:1-3)!

BY GOD'S GRACE AND IN HIS LOVING CARE, nineteen Abingdon Presbytery pilgrims, traveling in three vans, made the journey to New Orleans from 5:30 a.m. (EDT) to 5:30 p.m. (CDT) on Sunday, October 5.  They stayed at the Olive Tree Village, one of several villages established by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to accommodate volunteers in the disaster recovery effort coordinated by PDA.  The group was divided into two work teams and assigned to two different work sites in the 8th and 9th Wards, which were among the most devastated by Katrina.  Painting, laying and grouting tile, pouring cement, trimming doors and windows, hanging doors, installing cabinets, clearing brush and weeds, making repairs .. these were just some of the tasks performed by our group during the five work-days there.  They also participated in dedicating the home of Kenneth Gardner that Presbytery had sent money toward renovating last year.  The tired but joyful workers became travelers again from 6:30 a.m. (CDT) to 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, October 11.  They were pleased with work well done and glad to be returning home to the mountains.  Thank you for your prayers and support for these dedicated pilgrims and this special Abingdon Presbytery mission trip.  TO GOD BE ALL GLORY AND PRAISE!!
